Active Carbon Offset Projects
Seeing The Forest For The Trees
Mexico – This small community-based Improved Forestry Management project encourages residents to preserve and grow the biomass in their standing forests despite multiple opportunities to cut trees for profit or for increased grazing opportunities.
Forestry: Nature-Based Removal
What It Does:
- Protects several species of birds, orchids and other rare flowers, wild boars, white-tailed deer, and the puma—all threatened by deforestation.
- Contributes to a model for urgently needed forest conservation throughout Mexico and South America.
- Sustainably manages the forest with a minimal impact on the ecosystem but an extensive contribution to social and economic development.
- Creates jobs for local residents. Without the project, the main revenue source is agriculture with some cattle grazing.
- Provides education on forest management, monitoring and carbon revenue.
- Protects land ownership and revenue ownership rights of the communities and keeps people in rural communities.
- Brings in additional resources to reinvest in the forest.
A Walk In The Woods
Montana – Preserving and building standing US forest stocks while enhancing biodiversity.
Nature-Based Removal
What It Does:
- Green Diamond Company acquired 291,000 acres of working forest land in Northwestern Montana, managing them as working forests by improving productivity while increasing carbon stocks.
- The project area is approximately 71,864 acres implementing activities such as older rotation ages, uneven-aged forest management, and density management for significant carbon sequestration at scale.
- Green Diamond maintains public access for hunting, fishing, and recreational activities through the Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Block Management program.
- Adheres to the Thompson-Fisher River Conservation Easement, protecting 142,000 acres from future development.
- Assumes obligations of the Native Fish Habitat Conservation Plan to protect native fish species.
Methane Miners
Brazil – This project obliterates super warming methane emissions from the decomposition of waste in landfills.
Landfill Gas: Renewable Energy
What It Does:
- By cutting methane emissions, we can have a powerful effect on the urgent climate change problem in a short time frame.
- The project collects landfill gas (LFG) at the Manaus Landfill, transports it and combusts the extracted gas utilizing LFG engines and high-efficiency enclosed flares, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs).
- Improves local air quality and sanitation.
- Improves safety: gas is managed rather than subject to a potential explosion.
Power For Our Planet
Brazil – By capturing the methane being released from the landfill, the project is supplying the local energy grid with a clean renewable energy source.
Renewable Energy: Avoided Methane Emissions
What It Does:
- Prevents emissions of methane gas into the atmosphere.
- Improves local air quality and sanitation.
- Improves safety: gas is managed rather than subject to a potential explosion.
- Creates employment & job training for skilled labor.
- Creates electricity for the management of the plant and grid.
A Bearadise
Alaska – These important old growth forests will reduce about 1.5 million tonnes of carbon in 30 years. This project ensures the survival of these trees, providing a safe home for the animals and clean air for Earth.
Avoided Nature Loss
What It Does:
- Sequesters carbon over a 30-year crediting period.
- Recovers ecosystem home to grasses, blueberries, feather and tree mosses.
- Protects 5 species of salmon, brown bears, otters, weasels (ermines), deer, goats, beaver, rabbits and bald eagles.
- Provides local jobs in regard to property supervision and monitoring.
Together we have reduced
3000+
Metric Tons of Carbon
That's the same as:
- Over 714 cars driven for a year
- More than 7,672,703 million miles driven
- Recycling 130,308 trash bags
- 49,605 tree seedlings grown for 10 years
