Brazil – By capturing the methane being released from the landfill, the project is supplying the local energy grid with a clean renewable energy source.
Project Type – Renewable Energy: Avoided Methane Emissions
What It Does:
- Prevents emissions of methane gas into the atmosphere
- Improves local air quality and sanitation
- Improves safety: gas is managed rather than subject to a potential explosion
- Creates employment & job training for skilled labor
- Creates electricity for the management of the plant and grid
Beaut Down Under
Australia – This removal project planted 30 million native trees and shrubs in a globally-recognized biodiversity “hotspot” in southwest Australia..
Project Type – Tree Planting: Nature Based Removal
What It Does:
- Creates employment for 400 + people in tree planting, seed collection and integrated agricultural activities
- Supports the local indigenous community with jobs and archaeological surveys
- Cataloged and counted an amazing diversity of animal and plants species that were previously unknown
- Lowers salinity in ground and surface waters
- Establishes a green corridor from the coast that provides for wildlife habitats
- Protects and stabilizes degraded soil
- Replanted 30 species of conservation significance
- Partnerships with 11 local and national organizations including local fire brigades, councils, and environmental groups
- Provides an opportunity for farmers to sell non-productive land
- Improves biodiversity through a revitalized landscape
Home On The Range
Colorado – This project protects native grasslands across the Great Plains. By protecting this land from conversion to agriculture, millions of tonnes of CO2 are stored in the grass and the soil.
Project Type – Avoided Nature Loss
What It Does:
- Naturally stores CO₂ in grasslands.
- About 30% of all GHG emissions are caused by land use change and degradation. This project helps reverse it.
- Dozens of rare grasses and hundreds of types of flowers are protected along with buffalo, prairie dogs, jack rabbits, deer, coyotes, foxes, and innumerable species of birds.
A Bearadise
Alaska – These important old growth forests will reduce about 1.5 million tonnes of carbon in 30 years. This project ensures the survival of these trees, providing a safe home for the animals and clean air for Earth.
Project Type – Avoided Nature Loss
What It Does:
- Sequesters carbon over a 30-year crediting period
- Recovers ecosystem home to grasses, blueberries, feather and tree mosses
- Protects of 5 species of salmon, brown bears, otters, weasels (ermines), deer, goats, beaver, rabbits and bald eagles
- Provides local jobs in regard to property supervision and monitoring
